Acupuncture for pets in Poole
Whilst the many therapeutic benefits of acupuncture have been recognised in the human population for more than 3,000 years, many people still don’t realise that pets can benefit from the same treatments and techniques. We offer Acupuncture for pets at our Parkstone surgery for dogs, cats and other small pets.
Acupuncture is known to reduce pain and encourage cell healing, and can be used as a complementary therapy to treat a variety of health conditions such as arthritis, hip & elbow dysplasia, skin and bowel conditions, as well as some behavioural issues.
Your Vet might recommend that your pet could benefit from acupuncture alongside their current veterinary treatment plan.
What to expect with acupuncture for pets
Only Veterinary Surgeons are qualified to perform acupuncture on animals. At Walton Lodge Vets in Poole your pet will receive a 20-30 minute consultation with a full physical examination. The small, sterile acupuncture needles are then inserted for 5 – 15 minutes, depending on your pet’s condition and needs.
The needles and their placement are key to improving your pet’s health; they will be working on stimulating cells, increasing circulation, releasing the brain’s natural pain killing hormones and relaxing your pet.
Most pets require a minimum of 4 weekly acupuncture sessions to establish a response to acupuncture treatment.
